Black History Month Teen Essay Contest

Due Friday, February 18^th before 5:00 p.m.

Use the following quotation from Martin Luther King, Jr. which he wrote 1963 in “Strength to Love,” a collection of sermons:  “We are not makers of history.  We are made by history.”  In your essay of 500-750 words, address how history has shaped you, either on an individual/personal/local level of a larger political/communal/universal level.  Be specific and explain carefully what exactly transformed you into the person you are now or the one you are gradually becoming.
